Meet the New WorldSchoolers in Medellin Colombia

Listen to the media long enough, you’ll think blacks in America are doing bad. Well, all of the negative hype simply ain’t true. Just look at the families and children in the photograph below! We’re all expats travelling the world with our families … we’re black and we’re doing very well.

This photo was taken during a national holiday in Medellin, Colombia, at the Botanical Garden of Medellin. This was a meet-up of the families who were all connected together by Mitch and Donna Gallegos-Griffith.

Mitch and Donna Gallegos-Griffith have been very instrumental in helping us get over our fears about traveling abroad.

I ain’t gonna lie … I was scared, terrified and nervous about leaving. Just the idea of it all scared me. But after sitting on my computer and watching all of Mitch and Donna’s videos on Facebook and YouTube channel, I finally decided to take the plunge.

Folks thought we were crazy when we told them we were traveling abroad. And after meeting all of these great folks, their families and kids, I’m 100% convinced I made the right decision.

While we may be considered crazy by others, we are having a blast!

Steve Jobs said it best, and I quote …

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

  • I’m been thinking hard about retiring overseas. Colombia is where my heart is. I hope someone sees this response and e-mail me. I am very serious about leaving the United States. I’ve been retired here in the U.S. for many years but I want to make fresh start. Anyone whom can help I would much appreciate.
    Sincerely,
    Leo Jackson

    • Hi Leo,

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Making the move over is much easier than you think. You just gotta make a decision to do so. Making the decision is instant, but most put it off for years and years. My only regret is not pulling the trigger sooner. When we got here, we didn’t have an apartment — we rolled on in here and stayed in a hotel for a few days and then hooked up with a local who helped us find a place. Within a few days, we were in our own condo. You don’t need a ton of money to live — if you have a decent retirement check coming in, at least $1,500.00 per month, you have far more than enough to get over here and live quite comfortably. Don’t delay it … Just decide to do it. Fly down here and stay for a few days and check it out. We didn’t do any of that, we just showed up; and you know what, it worked itself all out.
